Tis’ the season for presents, egg nog, and holiday cheer. While the holidays tend to be the best time of the year for most, for others, they can be the most difficult. To help give back, Queensboro.com holds an annual canned food drive for our neighbors, the Wilmington branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

This year, we need your help– and we promise it’ll be easy.

Canned veggies make a great donation to Food Drives!

Please let us explain why this is so important. Just five minutes of your day, okay?  We’re doing this because we want to do everything we possibly can  (no pun intended) to help the Wilmington community.

No one should ever wonder where their next meal is coming from. That’s something we can all agree on.

So what do we need you to do?

How to Help If You’re Not Local

If you’re not local, or don’t want to brave the crowds at your local grocery store, you can visit our Crowdrise Fundraiser. Crowdrise is a great website that unites do-gooders everywhere. On our Queensboro Annual Food Drive page, you can make a donation right from your sofa. Seriously- that’s all you have to do. Donate some money and you’re done. Keep in mind that the minimum donation amount is $10. Not everyone has an extra $10 to spend, but consider what $10 can buy:

  • Enough Chef Boyardee to feed a family of six.
  • The recommended daily serving of fruit and vegetables recommended by the USDA. (United States Department of Agriculture)
  • Ingredients necessary to make a tuna noodle casserole, a hearty chili, or chicken and dumplings– not to mention hundreds of other possibilities.

How to Help If You’re Local

Campbell's Soup has a wide variety of soup flavors and recipe starters.

If you are local to Wilmington, North Carolina, and you’d like to make a donation of canned goods, we’ll make it even easier. Just email us at behindtheseams@queensboro.com or give us a call at 800-847-4478, ext. 241. Our coordinator will figure out the logistics of a pick up or drop off— pretty much, she’ll work with you to make sure this is super easy for you. No matter what we have to do, we’ll get the cans here with minimal effort on your part.

Any canned good donation is welcome. Even if it’s just one can. A single can of soup can make the difference between a child eating today, or going hungry.
